The first step is to join U.S. Ski & Snowboard as an Alpine Official.
After you submit the membership form and payment, you will go through a background screening process and be required to take a Safe Sport Course and pass some tests.
My vision right now is of new AO members all going: "Whoa, I'm paying a fee to be a volunteer and have to go through a screening process and take a course on recognizing abuse?"
Yes you do because U.S. Ski & Snowboard prohibits the following conduct:
- Sexual Misconduct
- Physical Misconduct
- Emotional Misconduct
- Bullying, Threats and Harassment
- Hazing
- Willfully Tolerating Misconduct
By taking the Safe Sport course and completing it you agree to abide by those rules. The background check ensures that you have in the past.
Ski racing is not a safe sport, but our competitors must be kept safe from sexual predators and abusive adults.
If you don't agree with this, then you are not Alpine Official material.
